We threw together an Old School Redraft League on Sunday (apologies for my many recruiting posts). Although I am not a fan of team Def/Kickers in FFBall, I went into the ‘Way Back Machine’ with QB, 2RB, 2WR, TE, W/R/T, Def, K, & the twist? Superflex.

I drew the dreaded by many 1.01 & couldn’t find anyone to trade. So I went with ‘The Bijan Impact’ strategy with 1.01, then watched Jeanty, Cook, London, fall toward me for the wraparound. When Jeanty went at 2.09 my choices were clear: Cook & London. As QBs flew out of the queue heading back to my 4.10/5.01 wrap I made the bold move to grab two – Lawrence & Dak. I watched Skatt, Egbuka, Burden, & Henderson get passed on until Egbuka went at 6.08 & Skattebo at 6.09 leaving me perfectly happy w Burden & TreV Henderson on the wrap. The tiptop of TEs were all gone as my third wrap at 8.10/9.01 approached… grabbed Harvey to shore up RB & added Fannin to be my TE1. Other than D/K, I now had a starting lineup with depth at RB, & as my next wrap approached I didn’t see Vets who guaranteed me a better shot than available rookies, so we welcomed Sadiq & Concepcion to the fold.

QB – Lawrence & Dak
RB – Bijan, Cook, Harvey
WR – London, Burden, KC
TE – Fannin & Sadiq

After going that route, ‘The Bijan Impact,’ & feeling good… I didn’t feel the available Vets gave me a better opportunity than many rookies… So I mixed Vets & Rookies, got two defenses & my Kicker plus a third starting QB to wrap this draft up:

12.10 – JCM
13.01 – Stowers
14.10 – Singleton
15.01 – Antonio Williams
16.10 – Ja’Kobi Lane
17.01 – Wan’Dale
18.10 – Jags D
19.01 – Fairbairn
Steelers D, RODGERS (third QB), & Eli Raridon as Mr Irrelevant to wrap things up!

Grading my own Draft:

QB Room: B
Lawrence & Dak should be a decent 1/2 punch, though Rodgers drops the grade as my QB3

RB Room: A
Bijan & Cook were an A++ start, added TreV, Harvey, JCM, Singleton. That’ll roll.

WR Room: B
Drake & Luther were a nice start, but I went YOUNG for depth w KC, Lane, & Williams before adding Wan’Dale for Vet depth.

TE Room: B
Again, great start w Fannin if he doesn’t get the Sophomore yips, but all youth for depth w Sadiq, Stowers, & Raridon.

DEF: A
Jacksonville & Pittsburgh were #3 & #8 in points for ‘25

K: who cares
HA!
A +
Fairbairn was actually #1 in avg pts/wk in ‘25

Overall grade: B+ I like this team.

And that friends is a successful draft. Fantasy Pros rates my draft as #6 in a ten team league. Many reading this may question my going old at QB3, going young for RB/WR/TE depth, or taking two defenses in a Redraft league. I may not win the league, but I have a good roster full of players I’m going to enjoy rooting for. Fantasy Football is about the experience just like a streaming service one might use for entertainment. Win or lose I’ll enjoy this team, & that makes this a successful draft.
